How do you create severe traffic jam on a clear road? Simon Weckert took 99 cell phones and towed them slowly through the streets of Berlin. This caused Google Maps to think there was a severe traffic congestion. As you know, when Google detects severe congestion on a street, it avoids that street during navigation and reroutes the person around that area.

It is unclear whether the phones had the Google Maps application open, or if they were in Navigation mode. There is a good chance the phones were just on Standby mode. If that’s the case, it’s interesting to see how often Google is pinging your phone’s GPS coordinates every few seconds to determine your location.
